Books of Interest!

(Published Aug 21, 2008)

Lara Kaufmann wrote this book because she was always interested in fun things to do in the Lake Hartwell area.  Lara and her husband enjoy exploring the area with their two boys who are always ready for an adventure.  When family and friends of all ages would come to visit, the Kaufmann's found themselves overwhelmed when trying to collect tourist information in such a large area.  Lara has spent countless hours on the internet, visiting Georgia and South Carolina Welcome Centers, contacting convention and visitor's bureaus and looking through phone directories to compile all the information found in this book.  One day, she looked at the box of information that she had collected and thought "I would have loved for someone to have given me all this tourist information in one book".  This book is her gift to you.  The Lake Hartwell Area Recreation Guide is a thorough informative guide and will surely save you time.  Lara has experienced most places in this book and has not been compensated by anyone to be included in this book.

Lake Hartwell is one of the most visited Corps lakes in the nation according to the Corp of Engineers web site, http://www.sas.usace.army.mil/lakes/hartwell/intro.htm.  With that said, you'd think it would be crowded, but it is not.  Because of its size, you can always find a private spot.

The Savannah, Tugaloo and Seneca Rivers all join to make Lake Hartwell, which provides opportunities for boating, water skiing, swimming and fishing. This man-made lake on the border of Georgia and South Carolina has 55,900 acres of water and about 962 miles of shoreline.

The lake is surrounded by parks, farm land, cute towns and fun cities, which all make for a fantastic time.  They provide great views, outdoor adventures and all kinds of fun activities.  The cities and towns each have a different feel to them.  Each one has characteristics that may make them worth visiting, depending on your interests.

When asked where most of the Lake Hartwell visitors come from, Jo Anna White, Manager of the Lake Hartwell State Recreation Area said "Many are from the Tri State area of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia but because of the lake being so close to the interstate we have travelers from most of the East Coast States that are traveling north and south."
