AUSTRALIA
South Sydney Exchange in May of 2009:
1. There is a new ED, Kay Graves. We have been in regular correspondence. Because of the costs involved, the have scaled down to a 2 week visit rather than 3.
2. I have queried her if, on arrival, they would want to visit FFI, whether they are arriving individually or as a group on the week-end.
3. I have explained the extra costs involved if they desire to spend a day at the Biltmore which I am encouraging.
4. I am working on presenting as interesting a variety of functions as possible for their enjoyment.
5. Ultimately I will be looking for help with some functions like "Guess who's coming to dinner".

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
It's good to be home! Traveling is wonderful but it's always great to get home, especially after a long trip.
I want to thank Bobbie for taking over for me while we were gone. It's good to have someone like her that you can rely on in a situation like this. We have spoken by phone and exchanged emails while gone and she certainly has everything under control. We have not spoken since last weeks meeting but I'm sure that the election process was extended to accommodate our missing the normal schedule. Bobbie advised me of the nominating committee members and I want to personally thank them for their efforts. I hope the members they contacted about being nominated seriously considered their response. The club is dependent upon each and everyone of us to play a part in it's existence.
I also spoke with Pete Chambers about the Floats. He indicated that several different groups had had a good time on the dock. I hope we will have the opportunity to attend one before summer slips away. Thanks Pete and Paula for making your facilities available for all of our enjoyment.
I have not spoken to Darrel Panner regarding the western exchange but several people who attended indicated that they had a very enjoyable time. I look forward to reading his report and hearing from more of the ambassadors. There are always some interesting stories that come out of an exchange. Thanks Darrel for EDing a successful exchange.
The UK exchange is just a month away and everyone involved is ready to go. New airline restrictions and fees on air travel are facing us but I'm sure we will all deal with them as best we can. The fuel situation has compromised all of us in many ways but we will manage. We are very excited about visiting the United Kingdom for the first time and making new friends as we do!
I will keep this message short after being out of touch for a couple months. I'm sure Bobbie will cover everything that had happened in her VP report.
    Good to be back!

VP NOTES
Many thanks to Richard Brister, Paula Chambers and Brenda Dixon for agreeing to serve on our Nominating Committee!  They will be working on a slate of 2009 club officers to be voted on at our
September meeting.  Thanks, too, to Chuck Thorne for all his work this past month on our website.  It looks great! If you have any thoughts/suggestions about information to be added, please contact
Chuck.
Merilee Brister is hard at work on "New Member Night", scheduled for our November general meeting.  We appreciate this special effort to share information about the work of the Friendship Force in our communities.  It promises to be a fun and informational meeting for not only our guests, but members as well.  So mark your calendars now for Monday night, November 3 and plan to bring
along a friend or better yet, lots of friends!
Our UK Exchange Group will be departing before our next newsletter so we wish them happy travels and may they find many new friendships along the way.
Bobbie Jones

MEMBERSHIP
In case you haven't heard the news, WE ARE HAVING A MEMBERSHIP DRIVE / BRING A GUEST TO A MEETING/ LET SOME FOLKS KNOW WE HAVE A F.F.O.L.H. SERVING
SOUTH CAROLINA/GEORGIA DURING OUR NOVEMBER MEETING!  We are really planning more of a SOCIAL with some of our "seasoned" members sharing some of their experiences.  Some of our talented E.D.'s  will have a station to talk with our guests re: their process, results & scrapbooks
Recording the experience.  No Business Meeting!  Probably, instead of a normal potluck, we are discussing having hearty finger foods.   TO ALL MEMBERS:  Please make plans to attend and start thinking now about someone from your church, work life, neighbor, sports buddy etc. that you could bring to the November meeting.

We would like members to make personal cards with the f.f.o.l.h. web site to share with contacts.
Chuck Thorne has created a very exciting website for our club.  The site is: www.ffolh.com
Please make yourself familiar with the website it is very easy to navigate.  In fact, Chuck is now working on our brochure to update the information.  He tells me that he should have the new brochure ready for members to download and print by the time you are reading this text.

Our publicity chairperson Jeanne Howe is working hard to get the word out to newspapers!  We will be working on getting a message on cable television and a radio message on WYFL.

Many of you have submitted some suggestions and we appreciate that so much.  It takes all of us to create an exciting club that new people would like to join.  Do not hesitate to call or email
Us with any thoughts you may have!

Please visit the new web site and let Chuck know what you think might make the site even better.
Thanks, Chuck.  You did an outstanding job.

WAYS AND MEANS....I want to thank everyone for their continued support of the 50/50 raffle.  Each month we raise approximately $50 toward the support of incoming exchanges.  We couldn't do it without the majority of the members supporting it!  Thanks a bunch. There was no winner of the raffle for August... Oh wait, yes there was!  It was Candy Pursell.  She was the winner finally, of the $53.
*** There will be 30 hats with the FFOLH club logo available at the September meeting.  We sold out of the 50 that had been ordered.  These items make very nice exchange gifts if you are not inclined to wear one yourself.  They are a tan cotton with a small navy strip on the bill of the cap.  The logo as usual looks great.  The cost of the hat is $10 and the profit goes to Ways & Means.
See you at the September meeting.

Golf – The Zust Open is August 20-21.   We have 16 people signed up to play.  Call Wally if you are interested.
New Business:
Normally August is the month when we vote our slate of officers.  Since the nominating committee was just appointed (Richard Brister, Paula Chambers & Brenda Dixon) they will try to have the slate announced in the August newsletter so we can vote in September.  Bobbie Jones asked for a motion to move the voting from August to September.  The motion was passed
The meeting was adjourned at 8:27 PM
Respectively submitted,
Jeanne Andrews, Secretary
